About Marco

Marco studied Dutch law at the University of Amsterdam and has been practising as a lawyer since January 2003. He gained extensive litigation and advisory experience at a medium-sized law firm in Amsterdam and founded AMS Advocaten N.V. in 2011, together with his three partners.

In addition to his daily law practice, Marco is also an expert attached to the business news website BusinessInsider.nl.

Specialisations

Marco advises and litigates mainly in the areas of Dutch corporate law, Dutch real estate law, Dutch construction law, Dutch contract law, and Dutch insolvency law.

As a lawyer, Marco was involved in the relaunch of the Mexx fashion chain by an international retail company.

Trustee in bankruptcies in the Netherlands

He is also regularly appointed by the court as a Dutch trustee in bankruptcies. In this position, he has built up extensive experience in insolvency law, viewed from the point of view not only of the liquidator but also of the bankrupt, its managers, shareholders and financiers.

Restructuring expert

In connection with the enactment of the "Wet Homologatie Onderhands Akkoord" (WHOA) in 2021, Marco completed the specialized training program "Restructuring expert" at Leiden University. The WHOA provides companies in a critical condition with an opportunity for restructuring without the need for a bankruptcy declaration.

Grotius specialisation programme

Marco has completed the postgraduate specialisation programme in Insolvency Law at the Grotius Academy. This is the most comprehensive and complete postgraduate programme in insolvency law.

Memberships

Marco is a member of the Association of Insolvency Lawyers (INSOLAD) and its international branch INSOL. He is also a member of the Dutch Construction Lawyers Association).
