Gijs Wessels

Gijs has been working as a litigation lawyer in Amsterdam since 2023. He focuses on commercial and corporate disputes.

He assists businesses in a wide range of commercial disputes, including liability claims, termination of contracts and disputes arising from acquisitions and investments (post-M&A). He also handles corporate disputes, such as directors’ liability, shareholder conflicts and deadlocked joint ventures.

Gijs advises clients on their legal position and the strategy to pursue. Where necessary, he represents them in court proceedings, both at first instance and on appeal. He also has experience in assisting clients in business mediation.

Clients value his personal commitment, direct accessibility and practical approach. He takes a proactive approach, makes complex legal issues clear and translates them into a clear strategy and concrete next steps.

Background and memberships

Gijs studied Dutch law at Utrecht University and obtained his master’s degree in Commercial Legal Practice at the University of Amsterdam. He completed the Dutch Bar’s professional training programme and is admitted to the Netherlands Bar in the district of Amsterdam.
